The slight tilt to the right makes it look as though all the boats slid down into neat little stacks against the canal. Love it.

I know exactly where this is, because I have a similar memory of dining here one night on my very first trip to Venice. Things like that one doesn't forget; I don't recall if the food was any good, but the experience was surrealicious.

The perspective captured in this image really gives the sense of architecture overpowering the tiny people navigating the street below; successfully preserving that sense of awe one would undoubtedly feel if it were you walking down that street right now. Sensational effect. Literally.

Old cemeteries offer such incredible possibilities for iconic and haunting images. This angel in the Pere-Lachaise cemetery in Paris is just a specimen. Love it. And can't wait to see this angelic statue in person - I hope, if I can find it as Pere-Lachaise is pretty huge - on my next trip to Paris, which I expect to be next year!

What an awesome shot! This really gives the feel for being in the middle of one of Venice's smaller and more claustrophobic streets. The "light at the end of the tunnel" - so to speak - is wonderful. Love this picture.
And incidentally, the narrowest streets in Venice are the Calesela de L'Ochio Grosso (at 53 cm wide, in Castello) and the Calle Varisco (at 58 cm wide, in Cannaregio). Both streets are on the big water- and tear-proof Rough Guide map of Venice I take with me on trips. Hard to find, but they're there!

Wow. Is that really the view from Ca'd'Oro? Why didn't I notice that before? Very nice.

Looks like the weather we're having here today, in the San Francisco Bay Area. But do we ever need the rain! That said, I certainly hope the duomo in Milan doesn't look like this when I'm there, this spring. I want blue sky, benign white clouds, and sunshine!

What a fantastic perspective! Love it. Really gives you a feel for Piazza San Marco as the hordes of pigeons experience it. Supa cool photo.
