I've heard of singing in the rain and dancing up a storm, but never dancing in a storm. Looks like fun! Certainly picturesque.

Your comments on this image are welcome, and encouraged! And a question for the photographer - The Club Creatures - if s/he is so inclined: Is there anything special about this moment, day, trip, or place beyond what you've shared on Flickr that you'd like to add or comment on here? Along with other vivaca visitors, I would love to know more!

  1. Thanks for posting my picture!

This was taken on August 18th 2009 on Governors Island in NYC.

The B-52s were playing a really high energy show when a very strong storm blew in, seemingly out of nowhere.

The Beach venue is "rain or shine" but the rain was blowing so hard they had to cancel the rest of the show. Casey Spooner (of Fischerspooner)jumped on the decks and started his set early.

About 75% of the crowd was crammed under the food tents like sardines and even the portable toilets had multiple people in them trying to stay dry.

The remaining people gave in to the rain and the rhythm and just started dancing, and dancing and dancing.

    A truly magical moment.

  2. Multiple people in the portable toilets for cover from the rain? Yikes! You definitely would have found me on the dance floor - LOL. I love the B-52s. Would have been awesome.

Great pic. Thank you for sharing more of the details behind the moment!

  3. Sure thing! And btw, the tree damage in Central Park posted earlier in your blog was caused by the exact same storm we were dancing in.

  4. Ha! The same storm. How crazy. I'm glad it didn't do as much damage throughout the rest of Central Park, or the city as a whole.
