I hope to get to Dubrovnik again, one of these years. It is so compact and intensely charming. I just loved it. And it's so close to other wonderful day-tripping sites like the island of Korcula, the seaside town of Cavtat, and the city and Bay of Kotor in neighboring Montenegro. I wasn't expecting to be as smitten with Croatia and the surrounding area as I was. It's a wonderful corner of the world with a rich and riveting history. Just delightful.

Your comments on this image are welcome, and encouraged! And a question for the photographers - Anselmo Lastra, ljgunn, sethfromsomewhere - if they are so inclined: Is there anything special about this moment, day, trip, or place beyond what you've shared on Flickr that you'd like to add or comment on here? Along with other vivaca visitors, I would love to know more!

  3. the thing i remember most when taking these photos is the weather - it was an absolutely gorgeous day! perfect temperature, sunny, and hazy in the distance.

the reason why i went to croatia - and the balkans in general - on my 3-month european trip in 2005 was the following - http://www.flickr.com/photos/kahunna/104699304/in/set-72157594502285258/. i saw that picture and had to go!

  4. I love it when a single image inspires someone to travel to some far-flung destination. It was a single image in a book somewhere that made Camogli, Italy a must-see city for me. Same with Kotor, Montenegro. And so many other amazing places.

  5. I just noticed this posting. Dubrovnik was wonderful for the first few days. The people were great, and there is an outdoor cafe where they played live Jazz. On my last day there, however, two cruise ships anchored in the harbor and the hordes of people ruined the feel of the city. Luckily there's a beautiful island just offshore, so I took refuge there.

  6. Thank you for your comment, Anselmo! I agree: the hordes of tourists that come off the cruise ships do much to overrun and ruin the charm of tiny Dubrovnik. It's lovely still, but not so lovely as after they've gone.
