I think these two images are just fantastic. On top, the Eiffel Tower looks dark and surreal. Like something out of Batman. The bottom photo is just so cool. It's layout is perfect. You feel the imposing size of the tower, arching overhead, by focusing on the small, dark figures below. Two of whom are ideally centered in front of the blue rays of light, beaming out somewhere in the beyond, like so much late-night sunshine. Love it.

Your comments on this image are welcome, and encouraged! And a question for the photographers - miguel.iturbe and GTREA - if they are so inclined: Is there anything special about this moment, day, trip, or place beyond what you've shared on Flickr that you'd like to add or comment on here? Along with other vivaca visitors, I would love to know more!

  1. Thank you for selecting my photograph, I cannot share your opinion about the city, because my experience in Paris was not as charmer as I spected in comparison to other smaller cities I`ve visited (scept for the tower and specially Notre Damme). The day I took the picture I was specting to walk up the stairs to the top of the tower but the stairs were closed and it was too much expensive for me to take the elevator, so I guess the photo tries to express the incapacity of reaching that view from the top, from my point of view the tower seemed like a giant looking at me obligingly and making me feel really small, so at least I got a beautiful memory of a disapointing moment.

  2. Well that's too bad, Miguel. I can see how you'd be somewhat unhappy with your trip to Paris after that let-down. But you're right: At least you captured a beautiful memory of a disappointing moment. Very eloquent, the way you put that.

It might surprise or interest you to know that in all of the times I've been to Paris - four in total, at present count - I've never been up in the Eiffel Tower. Not up the stairs, not up in the elevator; not at all. I've only seen it from below or afar, elsewhere in the city. Why? I don't know. I always thought it'd be kind of cool to save the most touristy thing for old age, and one of my last trips to Paris. Gives me a reason to go back, and something special to look forward to. You know?

Despite your disappointing experience with La Tour Eiffel, I hope you'll give Paris another chance, in the future. It really is a great city, when you get to know it.
