This composition is just fantastic. I love the light and the shadowy silhouettes, of course. But I also appreciate the asymmetry of it. I really dig the way the people become statue-like in their dark anonymity, no different from the figure with raised hand atop the column. Very, very cool photo.

Your comments on this image are welcome, and encouraged! And a question for the photographer - miemo - if s/he is so inclined: Is there anything special about this moment, day, trip, or place beyond what you've shared on Flickr that you'd like to add or comment on here? Along with other vivaca visitors, I would love to know more!

  1. This is just from couple blocks where we live, but the photo would have been left untaken had I not just bought a new pocketable digital camera (Fuji F100FD), which we had with us for the almost first day this evening. The photo is taken on the evening my girlfriend started her summer vacation, so we were having a couple of drinks to celeberate that - and while walking home this gorgeous sunset greeted us on the way home.

  2. Thank god for pocket digital cameras, right? I should always have mine with me, but I don't. I suppose I've missed a lot of shots that way. Your photo has just taught me a valuable lesson! I'll never leave home without my Canon Digital Elph again!
